Hi

I read at Heise Developer
http://www.heise.de/developer/meldung/BI-fuer-Alle-RapidMiner-6-0-ist-fertig-2057743.html (warning: German language)

about RapidMiner. They write it's Open Source BI tool. I don't know what does it mean "BI tool". I work with a DB which contains identity and access management data. Are BI tools for people don't want to learn SQL? What exaclty use case of RapidMiner 6.0 and my IdM data?

I ask because on http://rapidminer.com/download-rapidminer/ you are forced to register. There are so many GUI tools with buzz word "Business Intelligence". Can you explain me what's the benefit for me SQL coder with IdM data?

Sorry for the noob question.

For you as an "SQL Coder" The value is probably not very high.

The main use for BI (or other reporting) tools (at least in my experience) is that someone who "doesn't want to learn SQL" can get at the data.

Which is a pretty important use case. A book keeper who just wants to ad a new address part to a invoice doesn't want to learn SQL. A highly paid specialist in customer behaviour that needs access to the data doesn't want to learn SQL. And so on....

So these tools basically try to "automate the SQL coder away". Which is pretty much fine with me, because so far they only can automate the boring and repetitive parts of my job, which I hate anyway. Wink
